    1. You can thank Amara for all the bee photos. I'll let her know you liked them.

    2. Looking forward to her first B movie. Thanks for the video--it reminds me of our summer vacation in the Sierras, which unfortunately did not survive the pandemic.

  3. Happy holidays Blaine and family. I enjoyed the cliff jumping and the Kotter soundtrack! Thanks for another fun year on the blog. Best wishes for a better year in 2021. - Snipper

    1. I'm reminiscing -- a Brady Bunch opening and the Welcome Back, Kotter theme. :)

  4. Happy New Year Blaine and the gang.

Easiest Xmas one you've done so far I think. I got the answer after the second letter. I enjoyed the cats and the topography shots most. I got the impression they are indoor cats, but maybe you are not allowing them outside due to the pandemic. You know—the hoax. I hope they don't read too, and read that I called it a hoax and demand their rights.

    1. Some of our family still refuses to try the puzzle, so we tried to make this year's puzzle accessible to everyone. Some year we'll have to figure out how to make an "easy" and "hard" mode.

    2. Blaine,
I appreciate your reply and am sorry that is the answer. I think all the accomplishments in my life have come with difficulty of one sort or another and that is why they mean a great deal to me. Theodore Roosevelt is not one of my heroes, but I do agree with this quote:

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”

Maybe you could try doing two puzzles next year. One easy and the other not. In the meantime I hope everyone gets their vaccine shots and stays safe.
      ― Theodore Roosevelt

    3. Wow, Theodore Roosevelt said that? He knew about the Covid vaccine? (Not so surprised that he suggested that Blaine try making two puzzles.)
      That man is underrated.

    4. I noticed my error earlier today and was going to make a correcting comment, but decided to leave it be. However, I do appreciate your humor. LOL

  5. Glad Zooey and Zelda enjoyed the year having their humans close by.

Blaine and Family, all best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year!

    1. Plantsmith, the Gibbs Garden images are lovely. I like that their reopening in February is dependent on when the daffodils bloom!

    2. It's amazing to see fields beyond view of millions of daffodils when you go there. Yes and i don't know of any other place that does that and this year they say they may open early due to weather conditions- a global warming bonus? And the water lillies when bloom are pretty awesome.

  9. Excellent video, Blaine! You guys sure know how to have fun! The hiking sequence made me sad that I haven't been to the Bay Area for over a year. Hopefully, we'll make it there before the end of 2021. Best wishes for a happy and healthy year!

    1. The "Panic with Care" artwork was created by Felicia's brother, Steve. As a musician/artist/humorist he's been struggling during these times, but if anyone would like to support him, there are various clothing items in his Red Bubble store.

    2. I can understand supporting musicians, maybe even artists too, but humorists!? I think the line must be drawn someplace.

Seriously though, I think they might go viral with the right exposure.

  11. Plenty of Mendo this year. It makes up a little for all the posts already up by the time I get to them Sunday morning.
It really nice to see the Blaine Family grow another year safely and cheerfully.
    Cats and pastries Oh, my.
    Happy New Year!

  13. May we talk about all that great, long hair in your family?! Blaine, does it prompt you to consider long locks for you, too?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My hair doesn't get long in the same way. It just grows out and looks "poofy".

      Delete
    2. I understand barbers in the Bay Area are closed again. So, does someone in your family cut your hair, or do you use Robocut or Flowbee, like me and George Clooney?

      Delete
    3. We got a set of hair clippers early on in the pandemic and Felicia has become quite proficient. So far no slip ups.

      Delete
    4. I wonder if your hair got long enough if the poofiness would disappear. Great time to try it ;-). Long hair on everyone has become quite popular at both of my schools.

jan, Flowbee and Robocut--both are news to me. George Clooney, eh?

    5. I used to cut my own hair with scissors. (My advisor in grad school taught me how; he'd previously been a Navy fighter pilot and used to cut hair for the other pilots in his wing.) I got Robocut when my son was a toddler and wouldn't sit still for that. Still use it. My wife won't let me anywhere near her with it.

      Delete
    6. Sure, George Clooney. I don't have a recent pic of me to post here, but we look pretty much the same.

      Delete
    7. I've been cutting my hair with scissors for at least 20 years now. I guess lots of us are now living in clip joints.

    8. jan, the vaccuum is the secret to the Flowbee, eh? Yes, we can all imagine your resemblance to George.

  14. No real palindromic names, alas, in the Blaine household (although "Amamra" comes close)...
But hey, today is palindromic: 1/2/21! (Or yesterday was palindromic if you are in the Eastern TimeZone)

  18. Great video, Blaine, and a wonderful, fun-loving family ("with two cats in the yard..." Our "barn" cat has decided she's a "screen-porch" cat. Hasn't caught a mouse yet.) Love the music, too. 101 hikes? Over 800 miles? Wow. Many thanks for all that you do for this crew of puzzle-loving folks. Happy New Year!
