Q: Take the name of a large financial corporation in 10 letters. Drop the fourth and fifth letters. Move the sixth and seventh letters to the front. You'll name a person associated with financial misdeeds. What is the company, and who is the person? This person was due for a puzzle — !
Edit: This makes at least the 4th puzzle about this person. If you hold down the SHIFT key and type a 1 (a "capital one"), you get an exclamation point.
A: CAPITAL ONE --> AL CAPONE
Lame!
ReplyDeleteAny of you ever heard of a C.O. Amerps, Coa Merps, or Coam Erps? I googled and googled, but so far…nothing!

ReplyDeleteSorry, Blaine.
DeleteBlaine, how about this: Rearrange the name of the financial corporation, and get an item that might appear on a list of household chores. Rearrange once more, and get something a doctor might help you to do.
DeleteOver 700 correct submissions this week.
ReplyDeleteEasy enough with a well-known nickname...
ReplyDeleteOnce you know the name, there's a hint in the middle.
ReplyDeleteA storefront check-cashing service in my town is called Ntreedoump.
ReplyDeletePeople are saying it's probably the best one in the history of check-cashing.
DeleteNot Mission to Mars or Casualties of War.
ReplyDeleteAlso, not Days of Heaven or Malèna.
DeleteTake out the beer, left with a bird.
ReplyDeleteNix, Tom!
DeleteI wasn't casting aspersions on Tommy Boy or his hint (which I still haven't figured out). I was just looking for a place to dump the letters I had left over after extracting 'capital one' from 'exclamation point' (which is sort of a 'capital 1', if you use your imagination).
DeleteJust as last week's puzzle noted that you can squish a lower-case 'r' and 'n' together to make an 'm', Blaine's hint demonstrates the same thing for 'c' and 'l'!
ReplyDeleteI'm not touching this one. My comments always get removed no matter how vague I try to be.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, a clue...
Well, it's Sunday morning, so of course I'm thinking about cream cheese!
Rearrange the financial corporation name to get something I could use to clean up after my childhood pet.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Andy Garcia has 10 letters in his name.
ReplyDeleteGeneral Andrew Jackson and I both have a relationship with the financial corporation.
ReplyDeleteThe 6th and 7th letters are in those positions BEFORE dropping the 4th and 5th letters are, not AFTER.
ReplyDeleteAyesha's interview with Dr. Saag provides another clue.
ReplyDeleteDr. Saag is an expert on sexually transmitted infections/diseases. Mr. Capone suffered severe health decline from syphilis.
DeleteTake the even letters of the person’s name. Rearrange. You get something that has a second name that is true.

DeleteWrite down the letters of the financial misdo-er in order. Remove one from the end and replace with another letter to get a famous twentieth-century artist. (Take the name of that artist's most famous creation, remove the fourteenth letter, and rearrange to get the name of an inventor or his eponymous invention.)

DeleteHappy Stanislav Petrov Day! Gratefully remembering the Man Who Saved the World!
ReplyDeleteI will agree with you that he does deserve this recognition, but there is much more to the story than is generally known to most of us who reside on this planet. Those who watch over us from above were not about to allow this destruction to occur. This is not the only time they have intervened in preventing our total destruction, but it cannot go on forever. We must take responsibility and control of our future. They will not keep us from destroying ourselves forever.
DeleteDetails?
DeleteWho are "those who watch over us"? Where "above" are they? When else have they intervened on our behalf? Why have they made themselves known to only some of us and not others? Is this information, like, classified? How can I get a security clearance to access it? Could I get a peek?
DeleteSDB: I watched that video. Thanks for posting that even though for someone else. I still only believe my own experiences but interesting to ponder other people's experiences.
DeleteNatasha,
DeleteDid you watch the whole hour and a half? You didn't have time from when I posted the link and you replied.
SDB, I went through the whole video in segments. I will go back to it later.
DeleteYou won't be able to really understand it unless you watch it straight through in order and not jump around.
DeleteWhat did you like about it?
DeleteI can't answer that until you have watched the entire video.
DeleteI watched Greg Thompson's video last night. Nothing in there that I would call evidence of anything.
DeleteAt least you say you watched it, but you say nothing at all about it which reveals so much about you. In 1546 John Heywood said, "There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know".
DeleteExactly my point! Just because I said I watched it is no reason for you to believe that I did. Just as Greg Thompson saying that he went flying with his guardian angel, and was warned about 9/11 ten years in advance is no reason for anyone to believe those things happened. Evidence involves more than fantastical anecdotes.
DeleteI agree with you about whether or not you really did watch it, and that's why I said, "...you say you watched it..."
DeleteSo if something is "fantastical" then it probably is not true? Gravity for instance. Or perhaps life itself. I find everything in nature to be fantastical.
On his deathbed, Marco Polo was encouraged to admit that The Travels of Marco Polo was a work of fiction, but to his dying breath he declared, "I did not tell half of what I saw."
I'll stand with Carl Sagan: "What counts is not what sounds plausible, not what we would like to believe, not what one or two witnesses claim, but only what is supposed by hard evidence rigorously and skeptically examined. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. "
DeleteThat should read "supported", not "supposed".
DeleteThat is why I keep asking you for the evidence that we only live once. There is none. Why do you believe it has to be the way you "would like to believe," and not what so very many claim to know from personal experience? You cannot simply discount what people say they have experienced because it does not seem to agree with what you believe. But you refuse to look at and consider the plethora of evidence for reincarnation and many other things you are afraid of looking into.
DeleteIf you're so sure we live more than once, why bother with a parachute?
DeleteI didn't watch the video.
DeleteA logistical question bothers me.
A good estimate of the number of our species ever born is about 117 billion.
Currently there are about 8 billion.
How are "souls" allocated?
MJ,
DeleteThat is a logical question, unlike the one just preceding it. It has been asked many times, and I also have wondered about it too. I am not as clear about how to answer it as I should be by now, but it has to do with numerous possibilities for reincarnation. We are not limited to Earth and even human incarnations. Also that particular video does not specifically address reincarnation. There are many others that do. I would highly recommend the one from May 21 by Leo Bonomo – The Voice of Spirit, which I also watched again. You will find it after clicking on #3 of the previous presentations at the bottom of the Videos screen. I am not asking, or suggesting, anyone should believe any of this without further investigation on your own. You have to begin somewhere to learn though.
117 billion isn't nearly enough. If we go back only 5783 years -- OK, that's to the beginning of the world, but, still -- and figure 25 years per generation, that's about 200 generations. I've got 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents, etc. So, 200 generations ago, there were over 10 to the 60th great-etc-ancestors of me alone. Must have been awfully crowded in that Garden!
DeleteWhat "Garden"? Do you have evidence of this "Garden"?
DeleteNone whatsoever.
DeleteJan is (deliberately, I'm confident!) leaving out the re-joining of family trees; they are properly lattices rather than trees! (I used this as an example in one of my classes, in fact, and the students jaws were hanging for a couple of minutes thinking about it.)
DeleteBut to me, that rejoining leads to an even more astonishing conclusion: that someone who was alive when Queen Nefertiti reigned is the ancestor of every human being on earth today.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/humans-are-all-more-closely-related-than-we-commonly-think/
"Rejoining family trees" sounds like grafting orchards on the old homestead.
Delete"Rejoining" sounds so much nicer than "incest"! Especially when you're impugning my ancestry! But we're not like the British royals. I'm only around 8 billionth in line for the throne, I'd guess.
Well done article, good website, probably have to copy and paste.

Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLG1SgxNbBM&t=4s
I think you offered that before. At least it hasn't gotten any longer.
DeleteAs I am pretty sure I asked last time: Do you have any follow-up on that poor kid?
He will be very lucky not to have grown up as batty as his parents.
I never offered it up before. I only watched it for the first time just before I posted it. I did not know there was a video of the family. I have known of the story for years now, and it is not at all unique. It is common for family members to reincarnate in differing roles within their family group. You have no reason to slander his parents other than being as close minded as jan. And the boy seemed as normal and well adjusted as could be. So did his parents.
Deletehttps://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-5f3f8b4592d045a9b0c79ce1bf2429fa-lq
Deletesdb: I hoped you would provide some information about how the grandson/grandfather boy had emerged and grown up from that story.
DeleteI looked for follow-ups but only found the same story repeated a dozen or more times. I say "same" except the story varies and the locale is all over the country.
The evidence seems to consist of four occurrences over a four year period.
The question is not why jan and I are not convinced, but why you are.
MJ:
DeleteI have never questioned why you and jan are unconvinced. I understand that reality. What I cannot understand is why you cling to a theory for which there is absolutely no evidence and then ridicule reincarnation for which there is a great deal of evidence. Also many people have been to higher dimensions and learned of many of their previous lifetimes. I have been helping people remember some of their past lifetimes for more than thirty years now. Some of them I have been able to verify.
I believe if more research into reincarnation was done by those in the scientific fields we might take better care of our planet. I do NOT believe in reincarnation. I KNOW we reincarnate. Carl Jung said something similar, as have several other well known and respected persons of the past, going all the way back to Plato.
One of the best looked into cases of a child remembering a previous lifetime is a boy, James Leininger, who remembered a past lifetime as an American fighter pilot who was shot down in the Pacific. You can read the book, Soul Survivor to learn about it in detail, or just google the numerous sites and video information on this most compelling case. He is now grown and in his early twenty's. Anne Frank reincarnated in Sweden and is now living here. She wrote a book you can look into. You can watch a video of her describing some of her experiences. There are many other books and other sources you could look into if you so desire.
I had my first conscious contact from higher dimensions when I was 18 and at Ft. Gordon in cryptography training. I male audible voice coming from above my head told me, "The president's been shot." He told me four times and it was at the exact time it happened. No one else heard it but me and it was meant for me only. It was not really about the JFK assassination, but a gift letting me know there is more than we usually perceive. I had to keep this to myself for many years and never expected I would tell anyone ever. Not just that I would not have been given my Top Secret + security clearance, but I did not want people to think I was off my rocker. It was the first of many life changing encounters I am still to this day occasionally experiencing. More and more people are coming forward with their stories of this kind now. We all know it is very hard for someone who has not had such an experience to comprehend that others have.
I meant A male voice...
DeleteI should add a note about jan saying that Carl Sagan said, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. " I do not disagree with that, but relate to it a bit differently. I think everything we experience is extraordinary. We tend not to think of it as extraordinary though if we experience it regularly and it is accepted. Also if reincarnation seems extraordinary to jan, then why does he refuse to look at the evidence? Why does he refuse to say why he believes in the one lifetime theory? He must have some reason.
Several months ago I suggested that anyone interested in the question of whether we have lived before should read THE THEORY OF ETERNAL LIFE by Rodney Collin which comes from the inner circle of humanity to which both Ouspensky and Collin now belong.

Hint: “Rearrange the name of the financial corporation, and get an item that might appear on a list of household chores. Rearrange once more, and get something a doctor might help you to do.” CAPITAL ONE —> CLEAN PATIO; LOCATE PAIN

ReplyDeleteLast Sunday I said, “General Andrew Jackson and I both have a relationship with the financial corporation.” Jackson was called Old Hickory, reminiscent of “Hickory, dickory, dock, the mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck ....” And I’ve had a Capital One credit card for many years.

ReplyDeleteCAPITAL ONE — AL CAPONE
ReplyDeleteMy clues:
“Not Mission to Mars or Casualties of War.”
Those were two of the three Brian de Palma movies for which the score was supplied by Ennio Morricone. The third was The Untouchables—which co-starred Robert de Niro as…Al Capone.
“Also, not Days of Heaven or Malèna.”
Those were two of the movies for which Ennio Morricone received an Oscar nomination (but, in the end, not the Oscar) for Best Original Score. Another of those movies was—again—The Untouchables.
(I made it a point not to say “Not Bugsy,” because Bugsy is a story about a mobster, which might have made the mention too closely associated with someone like Al Capone.)
“Take the name of the organization the person was part of. Drop the first letter, and rearrange to get what the person would have done to many of his or her adversaries, and what he or she might have said each time.”
The name of the organization is CHICAGO OUTFIT. What Al Capone would have done to many of his adversaries is OUTFIGHT them, and possibly say “CIAO” when he did.
(Personally, I think Morricone’s score for The Untouchables was more Oscar-worthy than the one for The Hateful Eight, for which he did win.)
DeleteAt one point I stayed at the Clay Hotel in Miami Beach. That hotel was once owned by…Al Capone. I wonder if that's why the "total" I was quoted didn't include tax and resort fee. Not a fortune, still an icky surprise when unexpected additional charges are made to your credit card after the fact.
DeleteCAPITAL ONE -> AL CAPONE

Answer: Alcatraz --> Al Capone
On July 22, 2018:
Name a famous person from Chicago — first and last names. The last name ends in an E. Change the E to an I and rearrange the letters in just the last name to get a famous actor — whose first name is the same as the first person's. Who are these people?
Answer: Al Capone, Al Pacino
On February 21, 2009:
