Happy Birthday Bob!

As part of a birthday celebration for Bob, we created a short crossword puzzle. The partygoers seemed to have a fun time with it. How many answers can you figure out?

Update: If the dynamic version of the crossword stops working (it has a limited number of sessions), you can download a printed copy of the puzzle

  1. That was fun for me, too - thank you! (from one who has an Uncle Bob) -- Margaret G.

  2. I never do crossword puzzles, but gave this a try and solved it quickly, but had to look up the painter name. Never heard of him.

    1. I had to look up the painter, too; I was getting him confused with the "This Old House" guy. And I actually wanted Bill Cullen to work for 9 Down.

  3. I like this puzzle because my name is Bobby, so it is like you are wishing Happy Birthday to me. Coincidentally, I turned 1000000000 seconds old today, so it is my billion-second birthday.

  4. I couldn't play at all, because when I clicked on your crossword, but the resultant webpage said that I had used my 'maximum number' of turns, or some such nutty thing. I have NO Idea what that was supposed to mean. And I can't print it out, due to having no printer. Oh well.

  5. Correction: the webpage said that it had reached the maximum number of players (60) and advised the owner (i.e. Blaine) to please upgrade his subscription. (Corporate greed never ceases.)

For NPR puzzle posts, don't post the answer or any hints that could lead to the answer before the deadline (usually Thursday at 3pm ET). If you know the answer, submit it to NPR, but don't give it away here.

You may provide indirect hints to the answer to show you know it, but make sure they don't assist with solving. You can openly discuss your hints and the answer after the deadline. Thank you.
