NPR Sunday Puzzle (May 11): Entrance and Exit

NPR Sunday Puzzle (May 11): Entrance and Exit:
Q: Think of a seven-letter word meaning 'entrance.' Switch the second and fourth letters and you'll get another seven-letter word meaning 'exit.' What are the words?
I'm sorry. My PC was having issues so I wasn't able to post a hint this weekend. The puzzle is easy, so I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Edit: My hints were PC (as in Gateway) and weekend (as in getaway)
A: GATEWAY --> GETAWAY

  5. I started with rebus puzzles when I was a kid, but that was just a starter drug for more intense puzzles like these. Now when my puzzling gets too intense, I like to unwind with an old Steve McQueen movie.

    Don, you're right. As I posted on benbassandbeyond.com, I think Mr. Shortz returned to form this week. After three straight gimme putts, the current puzzle is of adequate difficulty.

  7. I didn't have to make up my hint this week. My daughter did indeed spill milk on her laptop keyboard right before she hurried back to school. She doesn't have a Gateway computer, but did make an embarrassed getaway.

For NPR puzzle posts, don't post the answer or any hints that could lead to the answer before the deadline (usually Thursday at 3pm ET). If you know the answer, submit it to NPR, but don't give it away here.

You may provide indirect hints to the answer to show you know it, but make sure they don't assist with solving. You can openly discuss your hints and the answer after the deadline. Thank you.
