Christmas Snowflake Matching Puzzle for 2016

Our annual Christmas puzzle is available now.
As in prior years, the reward for solving is a video Christmas card, but you'll need to figure out the password by solving the puzzle first.

Note: If you need some help, the full answer is posted here, but try solving it without help first... it's more fun that way.

Feel free to add a comment below to let us know that you successfully figured it out (without giving away the answer to others). We are always looking for new ideas for next year's Christmas puzzle, so submit those too.

  1. I got the six letters and the word, but can't make the boxes TAKE the letters, so I don't know what to do to move forward.

  2. You have to click the video link first, which will accept your discovered password there.

  3. What a jubilant, blissful, cheery Christmas card.

  4. Thanks, Blaine, for sharing these smidgens of your wonderful family life with us Blainesvillians. Your family obviously understands the meaning of your puzzle password.

"Cool" puzzle too (although I thought that "no two were alike"!). Thanks for this annual gift and for the yearlong gift of your blog, which "keeps on giving" us a forum for posting our puns, hints, links, piggyback puzzles, banter, bravado, wit, wisdom, spleen, gripes, giveaways, compliments, encouragements and occasional shamefully shameless plugs.

    1. Oops, missed Blaine's naming of the kitties at the end of his video. They are "Zooey" and "Zelda."

  5. Clever puzzle! Took me a few minutes too. Thanks for not including the ubiquitous FBI warning at the beginning of your film.

  6. Blaine, thanks for the snowflakes and the joyful cheer. Very happy to know about the Royal Gorge Cross-Country Ski Area. It will be a fun change from the Nordic Center at Snow Mountain Ranch in Frasier, CO.

All the best to you and your family for 2017.

  7. Thanks for the card. Puzzle was tougher than it first appeared.

  8. Blaine, both Lego and I are wondering how to shut down comments to a week's post on our blogs after the week ends. We are both getting a bunch of spam posts on older posts.

Any insight is most appreciated. Thanks!

    2. No blogger am I, but http://blogtimenow.com/blogging/enable-disable-comments-blogger-pages-posts/ seems to have instructions.

    4. Look under Settings > Post, comments & sharing > Moderation. I picked Sometimes and set it to 14 days. In that way commenting is essentially closed after 2 weeks and only the recent posts can be commented on. Or I have to approve an older comment.

    5. Thanks, Blaine! That's exactly what I needed.

  9. Great video, Blaine! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. And many thanks for hosting this blog. I see you've acquired a GoPro, or something like that. Next year, you need to ask Santa for a drone!

    2. Yep, got it for my birthday in 2015. You probably noticed a few uses in the video for our Christmas Puzzle for 2015. It's hard coming up with activities that justify its use. Eventually we'll have to resort to POV shots from the couch.

    3. Or you could always take up skydiving.

    4. I'll leave that to you! The best I can manage is Indoor Skydiving over a big fan.

    5. Yeah, I watched that footage back when you first posted it. Had I known you were up here visiting I could have taken you all up to Snohomish and introduced you to the real thing, and with a nice discount too.

I would not suggest you go to Lodi for the experience though. As far as taking up the sport, you are not the ideal candidate because in order to keep on the safe side it is highly (no pun intended) recommended for participants to be devoted to it and therefor current. You have way too many other activities for that to ever happen. It is not a sport for everyone.

      Happy New Year!

    6. Imagine how many fewer fall injuries there'd be if every room had a fan like that! I want one.

For NPR puzzle posts, don't post the answer or any hints that could lead to the answer before the deadline (usually Thursday at 3pm ET). If you know the answer, submit it to NPR, but don't give it away here.

You may provide indirect hints to the answer to show you know it, but make sure they don't assist with solving. You can openly discuss your hints and the answer after the deadline. Thank you.
