    1. Yes, just learned it's official late last year... oh jeez, more things to include in the next annual video. 🙂

  5. Awesome. California Poppies on the Meeker creek trail were beautiful. Makes me homesick too.

  9. Easy to solve, but I cannot get the thing to open with the video. I get this message every time:

Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

Make sure you’ve typed the URL correctly, or try searching Video. You could also watch one of the videos below instead.

    1. So sorry! I accidentally clicked something that set the video to unlisted instead of password protected. It's back again.

      Thanks for letting me know.

    2. I am glad you fixed it. Good job. Apparently you have been able to find a way to harness technology so that you are able to have your cakes and eat them too.

  10. Try again SDB - it's working again (though I also had difficulty yesterday). Like the pinecone-eyes! And it's always a fun retrospective that you share with us, Blaine - thank you! --Margaret G.

  11. Wonderful, and with a great soundtrack! I also see that congratulations are in order. May you have a happy, healthy, prosperous, and safe 2024, and thank you for all that you do for this merry band of puzzlers.

  12. After a little feedback, I've changed the layout of the puzzle slightly, added a better example and changed the wording on the penultimate clue. Hopefully that will emphasize the hidden holiday-themed words and make solving more enjoyable.

Let me know if that helps and if there's anything else I could improve.

    1. Blaine, no problem seeing the original post!
Thanks for all your work throughout the year.
Somehow, is there any way to show a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes in producing this website every week? I am so often amazed at how quick you are in not only knowing the weekly puzzle answer, but coming up with the web page too!

  14. Enjoyed it, as always. Especially like the music choices... Laverne and Shirley, Lion Sleeps, Bonanza. Loved the landscaping with the snap of a finger, and the Halloween bug candy. Last but not least is the spark bowling. Never heard of it, but looks like fun. I really need to get out more! Thanks for sharing. All the best for 2024!

    1. Felicia gets credit for all the music choices. In particular, L&S Theme in honor of Cindy Williams' passing early in 2023 and Jump the Line for Harry Belafonte. The spiders each have 8 individually piped chocolate legs – time-consuming to say the least. Thanks for mentioning the special effects for the planting. It took some planning, but I think it turned out well. It made it a fun activity rather than a cute that way.

For NPR puzzle posts, don't post the answer or any hints that could lead to the answer before the deadline (usually Thursday at 3pm ET). If you know the answer, submit it to NPR, but don't give it away here.

You may provide indirect hints to the answer to show you know it, but make sure they don't assist with solving. You can openly discuss your hints and the answer after the deadline. Thank you.
