For NPR puzzle posts, don't post the answer or any hints that could lead to the answer before the deadline (usually Thursday at 3pm ET). If you know the answer, submit it to NPR, but don't give it away here.
You may provide indirect hints to the answer to show you know it, but make sure they don't assist with solving. You can openly discuss your hints and the answer after the deadline. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteRemove two letters from the countries, rearrange, and get someone you're unlikely to see in either one.
ReplyDeleteReally?
ReplyDeleteFitting that the puzzle winner is a previous winner.
I have a two-word alternative.
ReplyDeleteThat is: neighboring nations, each of which anagrams to a two-word phrase, and the two phrases rhyme with each other.
After a few minutes of looking at a map, I have the answer. It's taking longer to think of a non-TMI clue.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of a Broadway show.

ReplyDeleteRemove two letters from one country, then rearrange to get a body part. Remove one letter from the second country and with no rearranging get a different body part
ReplyDeleteI thought I had an understanding of your clue, but now I seem to have lost it.
DeleteRemove the first letter of each rhyming anagram to get a food company and a footwear company.
ReplyDeleteI don't get that at all...?
DeleteI didn't either, until I googled them.
DeleteAnybody else notice you need two N's to make RIGHT LANE ENDS? Apparently no one on the broadcast did.
ReplyDeletepjbCouldn'tFigureThatOneOutJustLookingAtItOnTheWebsite,AndThisWouldBeAHugePartOfWhy!
I didn't catch that while listening to the broadcast, but you're right!
DeleteGreat observation Cran!
DeleteSo mad
DeleteReally good job picking that up. I wonder if Shortz is going to mention his mistake next week.
DeleteOne anagram is a tool; the other, part of a tool.
ReplyDeleteMore than 350 correct entries last week.
ReplyDeleteThis puzzle seems awfully familiar.
ReplyDeleteThere was a story on NPR Weakened Edition this morning about a government contract to employ AI....
ReplyDeleteWhat would Franklin say?
DeleteAlso nice interview of Nola bassist Peter Harris who leads a band with Herlin Riley at the Ponchatrain Hotel.
DeleteAll set here. Obviously “neighboring” becomes the key word given some of the other options. Given the ease of the challenge, I’d expect an overwhelming number of responses.
ReplyDeleteAnswer reminds me of a famous movie.
ReplyDeleteOK ... and there are two other countries whose names have anagrams that also rhyme with these, and those two anagrams are exact homophones of each other.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them were in the news years ago because of some bakery items.
DeleteAnd yet neither is a monarchy
DeleteA long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
DeleteThis is half of a puzzle.
ReplyDeleteSuriname ~ aneurism
ReplyDeleteI did not remember the previous puzzle that was used so very recently, but I am wondering if it had somehow caused me to think of one of the countries first and followed by the second. I also at first passed up another country that would be TMI to mention. I rarely remember previous puzzles here. Anyway I am now back home from another camping trip and will find it easier to post the answer on time this week.
ReplyDeleteRemove the second and fourth letter from each anagrammed word and rearrange to get a container and an animal
ReplyDeleteCorrection: One gives you a container without rearranging. The other anagrams to an animal
ReplyDeleteI just got a breaking news report of an ICE Gestapo officer shooting a man in Austin Texas this afternoon. Five days ago ICE goons arrested someone in a car across the street from my house. I feel safer now.
ReplyDeleteOn air puzzle.. as someone else pointed out.. Nearsighted + L cannot be Right Lane Ends because the latter requires 2 Ns.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and it also may involve pulling left a bit.
